These entry requirements are for the 2023/24 academic year and requirements for future academic years may differ. Entry requirements for the 2024/25 academic year will be published on 2 October 2023.

A UK 2:1 degree, or international equivalent, in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering.

Applicants with different academic backgrounds may be considered but we expect you to have passed at least two power engineering related courses with marks equivalent to UK 2:1 as a minimum. Examples of relevant courses are power electronics, power systems, electric machines, control engineering, renewable energy etc. This requirement may be partially met by relevant industrial experience; applicants with non-standard backgrounds may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants will also need to submit a personal statement, which should clearly indicate their level of understanding in power engineering, as well as demonstrating their strong interest in and commitment to the field.

Please note that entry to this programme is very competitive. A typical offer will normally require a UK first class honours degree or equivalent.

For entry to a masters programme at the University of Edinburgh, students will require completion of a four-year Bachelor’s degree from the following approved institutions from Bangladesh, with a minimum of 1st class grades or 3.25 GPA.

Alternatively, students who have successfully completed a Bachelor (Honours) degree of at least three years duration, are required to have already completed a master's degree from a recognised institution in Bangladesh – with minimum 1st class grades achieved.

Academic Requirements:

In order to qualify for entry to master’s study at the University of Edinburgh, you must have a good degree from a highly ranked university in India.

Entry requirements will vary, depending on the intended programme of study. The minimum score you should have achieved is 60% or more /GPA of 8 on a 10 point scale in your Bachelor's study. However, as grading systems in India vary between institutions, it is important that you provide us with a copy of the grading scheme for your university so that we can assess whether your Bachelor’s degree meets this minimum. If you do not provide us with this information with your application, it may delay our assessment of your application.

Applicants who are considered to have met our minimum requirement may be considered for entry and will be measured competitively against other applicants. For many of our programmes, competition is high and in the majority of cases, a very high First Class degree will be required. Certain programmes will also have specific requirements in terms of both the overall degree result and strengths in particular subjects which are seen as relevant to that degree.

Applicants with an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline will be considered for the 6-year programme.

If you have a 4-year Undergraduate degree from an HEC recognised university in Pakistan you can be considered for admission onto most one year Taught Master programmes, however, you must have achieved a minimum of a First Class Bachelors Degree (Division 1).
