These entry requirements are for the 2023/24 academic year and requirements for future academic years may differ. Entry requirements for the 2024/25 academic year will be published on 2 October 2023.

A UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent, in a relevant discipline such as Education, Demography, Global Studies, Public Policy, Regional Studies, Social Anthropology, Social Policy, Sociology, Liberal Studies, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, International Studies, Politics, Human Geography, Social Research, Economics, Public Health, Population Studies, Environmental Studies, or Environmental Sustainability. We may consider other subject areas if you have significant relevant work experience or a masters degree in a relevant subject area.

In exceptional cases, we may also consider your application if you have substantial relevant work experience in place of academic qualifications; please contact us to check before you apply.

Entrance to our MSc programmes is competitive. Relevant work experience or the completion of a masters degree is not required but is given substantial consideration and may increase your chances of acceptance. Preference will be given to those with qualifications above the minimum requirements, or those who have a competitive combinations of undergraduate, relevant masters degree, and substantial relevant work experience.

For entry to a masters programme at the University of Edinburgh, students will require completion of a four-year Bachelor’s degree from the following approved institutions from Bangladesh, with a minimum of 1st class grades or 3.25 GPA.

Alternatively, students who have successfully completed a Bachelor (Honours) degree of at least three years duration, are required to have already completed a master's degree from a recognised institution in Bangladesh – with minimum 1st class grades achieved.

Academic Requirements:

In order to qualify for entry to master’s study at the University of Edinburgh, you must have a good degree from a highly ranked university in India.

Entry requirements will vary, depending on the intended programme of study. The minimum score you should have achieved is 60% or more /GPA of 8 on a 10 point scale in your Bachelor's study. However, as grading systems in India vary between institutions, it is important that you provide us with a copy of the grading scheme for your university so that we can assess whether your Bachelor’s degree meets this minimum. If you do not provide us with this information with your application, it may delay our assessment of your application.

Applicants who are considered to have met our minimum requirement may be considered for entry and will be measured competitively against other applicants. For many of our programmes, competition is high and in the majority of cases, a very high First Class degree will be required. Certain programmes will also have specific requirements in terms of both the overall degree result and strengths in particular subjects which are seen as relevant to that degree.

Graduate entry to Medicine (MBChB)
Applicants with an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline will be considered for the 6-year programme.

Academic Requirements:

If you have a 4-year Undergraduate degree from an HEC recognised university in Pakistan you can be considered for admission onto most one year Taught Master programmes, however, you must have achieved a minimum of a First Class Bachelors Degree (Division 1).

Typically, the minimum entry requirement for our masters programmes is the international equivalent of a UK 2:1 honours degree. However, entry requirements vary between degree programmes, and some may require the equivalent of a First Class degree or previous study in a specific subject.
